The thought of Hillary's upcoming town hall with Clinton stooge George Stephenopoulos makes my stomach churn. Obviously ABC/Disney News has it out for the Obama campaign, if not for all progressive politics in general, and has decided to abandon even the pretense of integrity in their zeal to stifle change.
That said, Obama shouldn't allow ABC to tilt the playing field by giving Clinton a free nationally televised pep rally on the eve of the crucial North Carolina and Indiana primaries. Yet, in the wake of the shameful "flag pin" debate debacle, can Obama even go on the Micky Mouse network without being ambushed by Nash McCabe and "former" members of the Clinton inner circle.
Yes he can. There is still one real journalist on staff at ABC. His name is Sam Donaldson. Barack should demand Donaldson moderate a "town-hall-style" love fest on ABC for the Obama campaign.
One thing we can say about Donaldson is that he is a hardcore newsman who would rather lose a lung than let his own bais rule the way he did his own reporting. It's called journalism.
The idea is not that you are somehow immune from political opinion. Rather, it means that your professionalism demands that you do your reporting in a way that somebody with the complete opposite opinion could have produced the same work, if they too were practicing ethical journalism.
I know this style of reporting is terribly passé in the age of the bloggosphere and FAUX NEWS. But it is what is best for the nation.
Real journalism strives to give its audience the information it requires to carry out its civic duties. That is why the notorious Nash McCabe/ABC debate was such a rank failure.
I know Donaldson knows this, and know that his celebrity means that the Micky Mouse honchos who brought us "Path to 9/11" can't really mess with him.
I well remember Donaldson screaming questions at Ronald Reagan, who used to pretend not to hear reporters over the rotors of Marine One.
He's the real deal.
Thus, here is my unsolicited advice to Camp Obama. Call ABC and tell those a**h*les you want equal air time, and you want Sam Donaldson to host.
